PLA (Polylactide)

Crespac is pleased to offer polylactide (PLA) as a material alternative in many of its products. PLA is made 100% from corn and other renewable resources such as wheat, rice and other agricultural items containing natural plant sugars. PLA represents a new category of plastics that are completely non-toxic and biodegradable.

PLA resin is made by breaking down the naturally occurring starches that are present in plant sugars. Through a process of fermentation, separation and polymerization, carbon and other elements in these natural sugars are converted into PLA resin. As such, PLA is entirely made from renewable resources like corn in contrast to most other plastics that are petroleum-based.
